Intoduction-About Me: Will Robson

My name is Will Robson and I am from the town of Ada, Oklahoma. I am the oldest in my family consisting of my mother, father, brother, and two dogs, Boomer and Lil’ Bit. I graduated from Ada High School in 2010 and began college at the University of Oklahoma the following fall semester. I played football and golf all four years while I attended Ada High School. I started at the University of Oklahoma during the 2010 fall semester and am set to graduate this May with a degree in Petroleum Engineering from the Mewbourne School of Petroleum & Geological Engineering. This semester I am taking courses such as Surface Production Engineering, Improved Recovery Techniques, Integrated Reservoir Management, as well as Mythology and Folklore.
Something I expect to see a lot of once I graduate! A pump jack with a beautiful sunset background. (Wikipedia Commons)

Some of my interests include Oklahoma Sooner football, Oklahoma City Thunder basketball, golfing, and hanging out with friends. I have grown up watching the Sooners play football and when it came time to choose a college it was an easy decision (also helped by the strength of the Petroleum Engineering program). Saturdays in Norman are like Christmas morning for a guy like me. Like I said I played golf in high school and I have continued playing through college. It is a great way to relax and get some fresh air. It also helps that I usually get to enjoy the company of my mother, father, and brother as they all play golf as well!
I do also enjoy reading books and watching Netflix. My favorite author is most likely John Grisham. I have read most of his novels and usually once I start reading cannot stop until I have read the entire thing. Regarding Netflix, I can lay in bed all day and watch episode after episode of a TV series. My favorites I have watched thus far have to be Dexter and, of course, Breaking Bad.
This is just a little about me and my interests. I am excited to finish this semester up, graduate, and see what the real world has in store for me!

  1. Nice to meet you, Will! I see we have a few things in common. I also grew up watching OU football; my parents had season tickets from 2000-2012, so I've been a Sooner fan for a long time. Consequently, I also had an easy time deciding which college I wanted to go to (although I didn't know what degree I wanted to pursue yet). In fact, OU was the only college I applied to. I had student season tickets to the football games my freshman year and this year (my senior year), so Saturdays last fall were usually much anticipated events. Finally, I loved watching Dexter and Breaking Bad on Netflix! My boyfriend and I watched the entire series over many weeks this summer, completely hooked. They are great shows.

  2. Hey Will. Despite how this season turned out, Sooner football is definitely one of the best (if not the best) parts of being a student at OU. Thunder basketball is also a great thing too. Good luck with Petroleum Engineering! I have quite a few buddies graduating with that major too. Golf is something I wish I had a talent at. I am also graduating in May and can't wait to see what happens beyond that.

  3. hey Will it is great to meet you. Ada??? I am from Maud and my son went to school in Latta. You played football in Ada, well when I was a kid Ada Highschool football was extremely dominate. I beleive at one point they won 17 state championships. Congrats on you final semster at school, that is a huge accomplishment, and your degree will serve you well in the outside world. Well it was great to meet you and good luck on the rest of your semseter.

  4. Hi Will! It's nice to meet you. I'm also from Oklahoma, although specifically from Edmond. I know a couple people from Ada. Is it relatively small there? Maybe you'd know them. It's good to hear that you're athletic and enjoy OU's sports! I swam competitively for a while, but ended up having to quit because of my other activities, band and yearbook. I've also enjoyed netflix. Some of my favorite shows are Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, and Orange is the New Black. It was nice to meet you!

  5. Dexter and Breaking Bad have been the story of my life for awhile now. That’s probably why I started making Bs… Laugh! Congratulations on finishing up with school! It’s my last semester as well. I’m heading off to Cleveland to go to dental school. I’m jealous. I wish I could be done. Good luck with the petroleum engineering career! Sounds like a hand full.

  6. What a great photo of the pump jack, Will! That is a sight I am very used to since I was born and grew up in Texas, and my grandmother worked in the oil industry there in Midland. She had these oil-core lamps in her house that fascinated me when I was a kid: this was back when they would get big long tubes of stone, and so people would polish them and then use them as the base of a lamp with a cord going up through the hole drilled in the middle. Gorgeous! I guess now they just blast the core so you don't get those beautiful stone samples coming out of the ground anymore, but when I was a kid, I thought they were magic, like buried treasure from under the earth! Now you have gone and made me curious, I just Googled it... some of those lamps are still around, and boy are they expense: but way back in the day, my grandmother's house was full of them! I wonder whatever happened to them...

Anyway, the oil industry is a fascinating business: I hope it will hold great adventures for you to come! Maybe for this class you will to do a project about legends of the world underground ... definitely a great place of the imagination in the folklore of the world! :-)

  7. Dexter and Breaking Bad are awesome shows! I watched the entire Dexter collection in a matter of two months. That show was one of the contributing factors to me changing my major. Saturdays in Norman are particularly awesome for me as well. But not because of golf.. Saturday’s a Rugby Day! I’m sure you’re extra excited for spring to come back and get out on the course again!

  8. Congratulations on being so close to graduating! What an exciting time it must be for you. I think it is so great that you and your family all share the same interest in golf. I've never been into it, but my stepdad loves golf. He has so much fun practicing and playing in local tournaments. Golf can be a great way to build business relationships and it's a fun sport you can play throughout your life. Good luck with your last semester!

  9. Game days in Norman are my favorite as well and I will definitely miss them when I graduate. Although I have never been very good at golf, it is a blast to play with friends and family. I played baseball throughout high school, so it has been hard for me to develop a correct golf swing and resist years of muscle memory. That being said, I have lost/damaged a few club heads over the years. Congratulations to graduating this May and good luck with the rest of your semester!

  10. Hey Will!
I just wanted to say that I love the name of your dogs! What kind of dogs are they?
Although I am not familiar with where Ada is (I’m from Texas and cities/towns in Oklahoma are a foreign concept to me) I do know someone from there. One of my good friends is an environmental engineer but her dad is a petroleum engineer and he likes it. Like you, I am also graduating in May and I am both excited and nervous. Good luck this semester!

  11. Hey Will! I also really love the shows Dexter and Breaking Bad. They are both really interesting and really different. I'm somewhat familiar with Ada as my family has traveled through there on multiple occasions on our way to Pauls Valley to visit family. I absolutely love the names of your dogs.I wish you luck with the rest of your final semester!

  12. Hey, Will! Congrats on making it to your final semester of school – that’s super exciting! I’m glad to hear you still get to golf and relax while balancing such a tough course load. I think a lot of people get caught up in everything and don’t take any time out to do things they enjoy. Anyways, good luck on the rest of your semester!

  13. Hey Will. I know what you mean about college being an easy choice. I have also grown up watching sooner football. My dad had season tickets so I was able to go to a couple of games. It was, and still is, a tradition for everyone to gather at my house for football games, especially the big ones. Well good luck with your final semester!

  14. Will,
Pretty cool to read about your loving Sooner football; you can sing "Sooner born and Sooner bred" and it actually be sung with conviction! I am also a petroleum major, and think it's funny to read your introduction and know what your classes actually are. A bit different than Sharma's class, huh? Anyway, I hope you enjoy the rest of the semester- almost done and out!

  15. Hi Will! Congrats on being a senior and for graduation in only a few short months! I am also graduating in May, so I completely understand the excitement. I love the picture you used of the pump jack--but I am a huge sucker for any pictures of sunrises and sunsets! Reading and Netflix are also great ways for me to relax. I can go through Netflix shows like nobody's business, just watching one episode after another. But I hope this semester is going well for you!

  16. Greetings Will! Looks like we are both in the same boat for graduating this semester. The finish line is almost in reach now. Your major sounds quite time consuming to me. Can't even fathom the amount of time some the engineering courses take. I also enjoy my fair share of Netflix. Dexter is easily one of my favorite shows of all time. It has such a unique perspective and dark element to it.

  17. Hey Will! Nice to meet you! I love the athletic culture here on campus! Football season is also my favorite, but I've recently been loving March Madness! My bracket was pretty much ruined after the first round, but it has still been a lot of fun. I'm also a huge Netflix fan! I love to stick to one show and binge watch it all the way through. I've watch The Office all the way few a few times. I love noticing new little things each time!

  18. Nice to meet you Will! Seems I got paired up with petroleum engineers for this week's blog comments. You and I have football in high school in common, I played all four years as well. Sometimes I miss it a lot, but then I remember the practices in the Texas heat and don't miss it as much! And you're totally right about golf being relaxing, although sometimes I get a little bit frustrated! Good luck in the future man!

  19. Will, I also graduated high school in 2010 and am graduating college this year (although my degree is worlds apart from yours). I am glad you’re a sooner football fan, seeing how you are attending OU :-P
Have you been able to find a job for after graduation? I know that the oil industry is suffering and I have a few engineer friends who have felt the blow. I hope you are successful!

  20. PE major, very nice man. I bet you are glad to see the prices slowly starting to rise again. My Dad is in that field, so I get to hear all about the prices and how it affects life in Oklahoma. I would agree that a Saturday in Norman is like church. I hate football, except for OU football. OU is the only team I keep up with and avidly support. Best of luck in your next chapter in life.

  21. Hi Will!

Hope you've had a good semester. That really is a cool picture of the pump jack. I have a lot of friends who are petroleum engineering and they study more than anyone I know. Props to you for making it through. Graduation is almost here! Breaking Bad is probably one of my favorite shows. I haven't seen Dexter, but I've heard really good things. Hope you can enjoy the rest of the semester. Best of luck.
